Fangirl television meme

Ah, procrastination! This meme is perfect for the last weekend of work I have ahead of me this semester.
a. Post a list of 10 TV shows you love (current or cancelled)
b. Have your friends list guess your favorite character from each show.
c. When guessed bold the line and write a little bit about why you like that character (I'll do this by editing the post itself).
d. Post in your own livejournal.

d. Post in your own livejournal.
1. Firefly: Correctly guessed by
scarredbyitall. Do I want to be Malcolm Reynolds or fuck him? This is the conundrum of my fan-life. Thing is, Mal embodies my central idealized heroic fantasy pretty much dead on. As has been observed before, Mal is a male version of Rischa Vale. Stubborn, swaggering, rebellious, and uncompromising. He's also wicked cute, so if I can't be Mal, I'd settle for smooches.

2. Twin Peaks: Correctly "guessed" by
drawgirl after my friggin' boyfriend somehow mysteriously got it wrong. There is one and only one possible answer to this question and it is: "Damn fine coffee."

3. Fruits Basket: Gotten by
hplovescats. Kyo-kun Cat-san! Irascible, cantankerous, a total hothead. But that's just his nature. He really wants to be in Tohru's lap purring away and just don't know how to get there. I love it.

4. Avatar: The Last Airbender: Guessed in conversation by
drawgirl. Conversation went as follows: Me: No one's guessed Avatar yet. Drawgirl: I haven't watched Avatar with you so I'm not sure. Me: Seriously? Seriously? You can guess it in one guess. Drawgirl: Well, you do like redemption stories and damaged men, so...Prince Whassname?

5. Freaks and Geeks: Guessed correctly by
bluescissors76. Kim Kelly was the first "rough girl" I ever saw depicted right on television: mean, bitchy, more at ease with boys than girls, foul mouthed, but also really sad and sometimes really caring.

6. The Venture Brothers: As
prodigal guessed, I have a soft spot for megalomaniacal crazies in giant butterfly suits. This one is actually a tie between the Monarch and Molotov Cocktease.

7. Arrested Development: Guessed by
hplovescats (with him it's less "guessed" and more "how many billions of times have I heard girlfriend talk about GOB?"). Prepare for the Final Countdown.

8. Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Both options guessed, one by
scarredbyitall and one by
te_amo_azul. On the one hand we have Spike. I was actually a bit sad when they made Spike a regular character (which they did because he was a fan favorite). He was much more fun as a bad guy and occasional nuisance than as a fixture. His hero bit was just kind of lame. I liked him as a nihilistic punk who relished destruction. On the other hand, we have Faith. I do like those damaged brutal mean girls. I would have watched a well-put-together Faith spin-off in a heartbeat: it would have made for a much more interesting redemption story than Angel did.
9. The Twelve Kingdoms: There are far too many options for this one. King En (the dark haired dude in the picture) was
drawgirl's call. He's pretty splendid because he's flirty and kind and has a profound joie de vivre, all of which has affected his kingdom to create a golden age. Also in the running: Rakusun because he is a gentle saintly soul, and Taiki (second picture) because he's fucking adorable.
10. Neon Genesis Evangelion: Guessed correctly by
sliding_doors. Who doesn't love unshaven rogues with deeply unfortunate conflicts of interest? Kaji-san all the way.

Some of these will probably be relatively obvious.

on 2007-12-08 06:40 pm (UTC)5. Linda Cardellini's character's friend, Kim Kelly.
7. OMG George Michael! Are you one of the people who had a adult-woman crush on him before everyone else did and think he's rightfully yours? Not like I'd know anything about that. What?
(Yes, that's *really* it.)

on 2007-12-08 10:15 pm (UTC)Wrong on number seven though...think "more theatrical."
But Michael Cera is pretty much adorable, I have to say.

on 2007-12-09 02:16 pm (UTC)Arrested Development - Tobias Funke??? I watched a few episodes yesterday and I think everything his character says has a double entendre. Which is awesome.

no subject
on 2007-12-08 11:23 pm (UTC)Correct! Though I'm gonna say a close second is Asuka Langley Soryu.

on 2007-12-08 11:55 pm (UTC)rei is still my favorite. kaji being my second.

on 2007-12-09 01:04 am (UTC)I will give it a shot:
1. Malcom Reynolds
8. Spike!
I have no clue on the others.

on 2007-12-09 07:19 pm (UTC)2. Bingo (though tied with Faith)!
And while both of them are pretty yummy fangirl tidbits, that's actually not why they're beloved. Okay, that's not why Mal is beloved. Spike maybe. I like 'em bad.

on 2007-12-09 02:49 am (UTC)I would guess, but I'm not that familiar with many TV shows that came out past 1995.

on 2007-12-10 12:19 am (UTC)To be a favorite, they had to have been better than just "a good show," they had to have impacted me in some profound way. I don't think I could name ten of them that have done that. I'll have to think about it for a while.

2. Is Laura Palmer considered a character?
no subject
on 2007-12-09 08:47 pm (UTC)9. Close but no.
2. HOW DID YOU MISS THIS ONE?!?!!!???
no subject

on 2007-12-09 09:21 pm (UTC)Laura Palmer. My ass!

on 2007-12-10 05:56 pm (UTC)9. King En?
no subject
on 2007-12-10 06:28 pm (UTC)9. King En is up there. I'm actually hard pressed to say if it's him, Rakushun, or Taiki. Maybe Youko is even on the list, although I only really started being gung-ho about her as the series ended (I would have been all up in that shit if it'd gone on). But yeah, King En is one of many possible answers (maybe I shouldn't have included a show where I love so many characters?)

on 2007-12-11 03:26 am (UTC)b) Wow, I haven't heard of half these shows. I think I need to queue up some torrents and broaden my horizons. That or continue (like I have for the last seven years) watching Stargate, Farscape and South Park until my brain melts. Which, by my calculations, should be about a week from tomorrow.
c) Evangelion. How did I forget about that show? I need to dig those up and burn those to DVD.

on 2007-12-11 10:04 am (UTC)Firefly: I'll go with Simon Tam, cause he's so goddamn cute. And, I think it's one of Joss Whedon's attempts at crypto fan boy gay male inclusion.
Twin Peaks: OMG, you didn't pick Audrey? Well, my favorite character - beside Agent Cooper - is Benjamin Horne.
The Venture Bros. - I'll pick Dr. Venture himself, if only because he's me sans jump suit.
Arrested Development - Lucille. She's just so fucking puckered and menacing. See Benjamin Horne. See also Dr. Venture. See a pattern here?
Neon Genesis - I guess I should pick Gendo and thus expand my See 'X' pattern.
Buffy - Mayor Wilkins. See Pattern.

on 2007-12-11 09:27 pm (UTC)I think you might be over-estimating your general malice. When I think "creepy menacing ghouls of television" I can honestly say my mind does not immediately flash to you. Are you relieved or disappointed?
Also: it's not a jumpsuit, it's a *speedsuit.*
no subject
on 2007-12-12 04:52 am (UTC)But yes, it is called a speedsuit. I will concede this.
Grudgingly
Fat cat alert!!
