If you like talking shit about stupid people...and I know some of you do...you need to see Idiocracy, like, right now. Here is just one example of why:

Totally don't remember this ever hitting the theaters, but then I don't remember Office Space hitting theaters either. Someone in the movie industry must have it in for Mike Judge.

Somehow the script made me imagine what a conversation between me and [profile] blozor might be like if we started talking some customer service shop.

"'Batin'!"
That clip is probably my favorite part of the whole flick. It had some really funny aspects, but there was something missing for me... it just doesn't seem to transcend in the way that Office Space (and even Beavis & Butthead and King of the Hill) seem to. The ideas behind it were all awesome (the city-sized Cosco, brand-covered fabric, etc.) but there was just something about the storyline and the way it was executed that didn't fully do it for me. Still, a fun little movie.

I've wanted to see Idiocracy for a few months now. I keep forgetting to do so. Apparently, 20th Century Fox did deliberately nothing to promote the movie, releasing no trailers or TV spots or press kits for media outlets. They gave it a limited release (125 theaters), and a few weeks before it came out, various articles reported (incorrectly, in the end) that its release had been put on hold indefinitely. So that's probably why next to no one was aware of it coming to theaters.

I watched this right before I left for L.A. and was going to post about it, but didn't have the time (ice storm, etc.). I had a reaction between yours and punkybrister's -- I felt that Mike Judge could have run a lot further with the ideas and produced a landmark movie, but that the final product was still really good nonetheless. In other words, I wonder what the movie could have been, but that won't stop me from watching it again... repeatedly.

I don't know if you visit IMDb's forums much, but this movie is a *golden* opportunity to see IMDb's colorful population (read: the biggest retard trolls in the universe) in action. Most people on the board for Idiocracy understood the point of the movie, but there's a lot of people who are essentially the kind of people who could end up being ancestors of the people in the movie. There all like "fart jokes aren't funny anymore, I want my money back." If you like web forum train wrecks, check it out.
